by GIRIDHAR PARTHASARATHI 01 Jul 2024

We often yearn for the greenery and freshness that surrounds us during the summer. Summer-time provides longer, brighter days and warmer weather. This is the time of year when a wide range of indoor plants flourish. Depending on your taste, style, and available area, you can use these indoor plants to adorn your room. These are a few of the greatest summer indoor plants you may get to spruce up your area this summer:

 1.Snake Plant:

Scientific Name: Sansevieria trifasciata

The leaves of the snake plant, sometimes called “mother-in-law’s tongues,” grow long and vertically. They are ornamental and require very little maintenance. When the earth is dry, that’s when the plants “thrive on neglect” and need to be watered. They flourish in any kind of light as well. The snake plant was included in the large NASA study on indoor plants and has been shown to progressively remove air contaminants. The finest indoor plant for oxygen is this one! This would make for a great indoor summer house plant!

2.Spider Plant:

Scientific Name: Chlorophytum comosum

Spider plants require very little care, are simple to grow, and don’t require a lot of time or effort. The University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension states that the plants are named for the “small plantlets produced on long trailing stems that vaguely resemble spiders.” The plants have narrow leaves.

Spider plants are well renowned for their ability to purify the air around them. By analysing the leaves, soil, roots, and microbes of various house plants, NASA research indicates that plants can act as a natural air filter to reduce pollutants in the air. The study found that spider plants in a sealed Plexiglas container were able to remove 95% of the hazardous formaldehyde from the air in just 24 hours.

3.Peace Lily:

Scientific Name: Spathiphyllum

Certainly, there is tranquillity to be found in the term “peace lily.” Hardy plants that “flower and have a pleasing appearance.”

Peace lilies are long-lived plants that regularly produce broad white blossoms that resemble a white peace flag. Being low light requirements and easy care indoor plants, they flourish well in shaded settings. Just keep them out of the reach of young children and animals since they can induce vomiting or tongue swelling if ingested.

Not only are ZZ plants well-known for their ability to cleanse the air, which translates to cleaner air for your space, but they also flourish in a variety of environments. Although their waxy green leaves can withstand extremely low humidity and low light—even in rooms without windows—they thrive in strong, indirect sunlight. Remember that the plant may be poisonous to dogs and cats.

5.Pothos:

Scientific Name: Epipremnum pinnatum

Probably the first thing that springs to mind when you see a houseplant is the pothos. All they need to survive is occasional irrigation and shaded sunlight. Plants have been shown to reduce indoor ozone levels, which can enhance breathing, reduce the risk of respiratory ailments, and remove volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the air.

Excellent indoor houseplants are rubber plants. They are also known as Ficus elastica, or rubber trees. They are generally simple to maintain and only need to be watered once a week or so. Rubber plants are capable of air filtration thereby making them great summer indoor plants.
