1. Light Requirements

Syngonium flourishes in bright, indirect light. Place it near a window where it receives filtered sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the leaves and cause them to yellow. While Syngonium can tolerate lower light conditions, its growth may slow, and its colours may fade. If natural light is limited, it can also thrive under fluorescent or LED grow lights.

2. Watering

Ensure that the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water the plant when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. If you overwater, Syngonium can become damaged whereas underwatering can lead to dead leaves and stems.

During winter, when growth slows, reduce the frequency of watering. Watering your syngonium Twice a week in summer and once a week in winter is best for keeping these plants healthy.

3. Soil and Fertilising

Use a well-draining potting mix to help aeration and prevent root rot. A mix of peat, perlite, and potting soil works well. Feed the plant monthly during spring and summer seasons with a balanced, water-soluble fertiliser. Reduce feeding in the fall and winter.

4.Temperature and Humidity

Syngoniums originated in warmer regions, so standard household temperatures are suitable for these plants. However, they are sensitive to extreme cold and frost, so they need protection during winter in colder areas. Ensure to maintain temperatures between 16-29°C.

Avoid placing them near doors and heaters to prevent temperature fluctuations. While they tend to grow faster in warmer spots, it's not essential for maintaining a healthy plant.

5. Maintenance and Repotting 

Repot the plant every 1-2 years or when it becomes root-bound. The timing of repotting depends on the plant's growth and size, but typically it’s not needed more than once annually. When selecting the pot, ensure that it has proper drainage.

Certain varieties of Syngonium can grow quite quickly and may need regular trimming to control their size and shape, particularly the vining types. Maintenance is straightforward. Remove dead leaves and trim any overly long or hanging stems with clean scissors.

6. Propagation

You can easily propagate your Syngonium using stem cuttings. Cut a section of the stem that includes at least one node and place it in water or soil to root. The ideal time for propagation is during the plant’s highest growth period, typically in the spring or summer.

7. Pest Control
